Kinship Message

Message from Haroon Supervising Social Worker

One of the most rewarding parts of my role is seeing the incredible difference kinship carers make to children's lives. These are individuals who often step into caring roles at a time of crisis. They do so out of love and a determination to give children the stability they need.

Many of the children I have worked with have experienced trauma and uncertainty. Some have struggled in school, run away from home, or displayed behaviours that reflected the difficulties they had faced. Behind those behaviours were children who needed safety, understanding, and someone who would not give up on them.

What stands out most is the unwavering commitment of kinship carers. They champion children's needs and celebrate every achievement no matter how small. They provide the stability that allows children to heal, grow, and believe in themselves.

I have seen children who once found it difficult to cope in school go on to thrive in education, build positive relationships, and enjoy opportunities they never thought possible. These transformations do not happen overnight. They are built on trust and the unconditional care that kinship carers provide day after day.

Seeing these journeys unfold reminds me why kinship care is so important. Kinship carers do far more than provide a home. They provide hope and the chance for children to look forward to a brighter future. Their impact is profound, and I witness daily the life changing difference they make.
